This sure did not look like a draft of a team that is trying to win now, and that is how I will feel if any of my teams end up with a Jet on them. The Jets did manage to get a solid replacement for Darelle Revis, snagging Dee Milliner with the ninth overall selection, but beyond that they did little to improve at any position. That is, unless you are a believer in Geno Smith.
Fantasy Impact
Lets for a minute pretend that Geno Smith is able to beat out Mark Sanchez (Editor’s note: or the coach is stupid enough to get ASanchez hurt in a meaningless preseason game), does anyone really think he can succeed with the talent on the Jets offense? I know Sanchez was bad last year, but so was the rest of the team. Smith has a slight bit of upside for the fantasy game due to his rushing ability, but the weapons are just not there. Santonio Holmes is a burden in the locker room, SSP color scheme is an enticing–but raw–talent and Chris Ivory is yet to prove that he can stay on the field. The only format where Smith is a must-draft is in dynasty formats.
Milliner is a solid player and just might have the tools to fill the hole left by the departure of Revis. He’s worth a shot in IDP leagues, but in standard formats, the defense as a whole will be hurt due to the offense’s inability to sustain drives.
