Fantasy Football Tiered Wide Receiver Rankings

With just over 36 hours to kickoff, there is still plenty of time to get in that one last draft. To guide you, we’re taking a close look at the wide receiver position to analyze the depth of the position.

We’ll lay out the tiers with a couple of quick notes and jump into the tiered running back rankings for the 2013 fantasy football season. As always, special thanks go to FantasyPros.com for providing the rankings platform and widget.

Tier One

Expect Calvin Johnson to finish as his beastly self once again, but the gap between Megatron and the rest of the crowd is not as great as some perceive. In fact, with solid QB play and good health, any one of our top-6 options could easily make a run at the top spot.

Tier Two

The Atlanta duo makes their home at the top of tier two. yes, Julio and Roddy have tier one  talent, but their impact on the other just cannot be ignored. Unless there is an injury, we don’t see either leading the position in scoring. Dwayne Bowe makes his way into tier two now that he’s got a competent quarterback and, more importantly, a coach who loves to chuck it.

Tier Three

Plenty of solid upside options reside in tier three. Jackson, Nicks and Jennings have been there before, but injuries and uncertainty have dampened their prospects. Danny Amendola is one of the toughest to rank in this group. he is in a situation to thrive when healthy, but staying on the field has been a concern. His ranking at No. 20 is a bit of a hedge and you are likely going to need to dive in sooner if you want him.

Tier Four

Old reliables Steve Smith and Reggie Wayne continue to provide value. Desean Jackson needs to stay motivated, but that speed is still there. Even with a rag-tag duo under center, Cecil Shorts thrived down the stretch in 2012.

Tier Five and Beyond

Outside of the top-31 it’s time for some lottery tickets. Chris Givens, Justin Blackmon, T.Y. Hilton and Josh Gordon all showed elite flashes last season. Can any of them take the next step. Lance Moore sticks out as a solid value down on the list. He will continue to get targets in one of the most pass-heavy offenses in the game.. you gotta love that.
